Jenna's Summer Vacation 2021

Jenna Nickell niece, extraordinaire, wanted to take a trip in the RV ever since laid eyes on it. So we planned a trip which was going to take most of the summer. Then the COVID-19 lockdown ended for her school. After the social gatherings began at school, she figured out she needed to be home with reconnected friends for some of the summer, so we cut the trip down to three weeks.

She arrived mask up and ready to go.

Hi, I’m Jenna. Previously a locked down high schooler who was able to return to class just before school ended for the year. I like to read, skate, race my golf cart, fish, hike and travel of course. Below is a screen shot of where we are going this summer. Should be lots of fun and it’s 2900 miles round trip. I’ll keep you up to date as we go.

Before we take off on this adventure, we have a little time to waste in San Diego.

We all took off for a day of sun and fun. Weather is great along the coast so it wasn’t too hot. My cousin Anjenae really knows her way around the good places to go in San Diego, it was fun.

Finally Time To Hit The Road

First Stop, The Grand Canyon Railroad

The Grand Canyon Railway, is a heritage railroad which carries passengers between Williams, Arizona and the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. The 64-mile railroad, built by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway, was completed on September 17, 1901. We stayed at the Grand Canyon Railroad RV Park, and met up with Grandma and Grandpa. They brought a present from mom and dad, an electric scooter. Boy was that great, plenty of room to ride.

Well, it's time to leave the Grand Canyon, and head to the next stop, The Meteor Crater. Amazing what you find along the roads of America

This actual Geodetic Survey Marker at Meteor Crater was made before the use of satellites! Back then you triangulated a position and marked it.

You have to see it to believe it.

We stayed at Kirkland Air Force Base and had plenty of time off in preparation for the grand finale, The Hot Air Balloon Ride! We had to get up at 4:30, drive a half hour to a parking behind a restaurant. We thought they would take us somewhere else to launch, but they blew them up there and off we went. Great time.

Beautiful base with a lot of history. Some very strange things have gone on here in the past and still do today. A good portion of the base is "off limits" due to security, but there was a guy in the RV park who was able to get Uncle Rick around to see some of the sites. Not many pictures of his trip. See the link below for some info on one of his stops. They used to test B-52 and B-1 bombers at this site for Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP). Electric scooter riding was great. I got lost for awhile and a search party had to be sent out ti find me. No big deal!

Big Balloon Ride

Nanee and I finally got to go on our balloon ride. It was one of the biggest events of the trip. Beautiful day and we made it back in one piece.

We weren't here for the festival, but this video is amazing! We only had a couple of gallons up on our day, I can't imagine being up there with all these balloons
